Heart Disease

According to the ACLS Study Guide, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.  In 2005, approximately 920,000 persons in the United States had a myocardial infarction (heart attack).  In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds.  It has been estimated that about 300,000 individuals in the United States experience a cardiac arrest each year and fewer than 15% survive.
