The Holter monitor is a continuous ambulatory EKG monitor that records the rhythm which is usually used for a 24-hour period, but may be continued for 48 to72 hours. Holter monitoring mainly detects rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation, flutter, ectopy such as premature beats, or ventricular tachycardia. Holter monitor does not detect ischemia and is not accurate for evaluating the ST segment.
