H’s and T’s – This week is hypokalemia.
Hypokalemia – potassium is an electrolyte which plays a role in maintaining normal contraction of the myocardium. Vomiting, diarrhea or diuretics can cause hypokalemia as well as chronic kidney disease. Treatment may include a controlled but rapid infusion of potassium.
